The Nippon Match Manufacturing Co. was one of the major consolidated match producers of Meiji and Taisho-era Japan, and their dragon label is a masterclass in pre-war Japanese graphic energy: mythological power compressed into a small rectangle, printed in colors that have no right to look this vivid after a hundred years.
The teal dragon against hot pink is not an accident. Japanese commercial printers understood contrast, tension, and the kind of graphic combination that stops a buyer at a market stall. It still works, on entirely different shelves, for entirely different reasons.
