1. Site content and ownership

This website, ichinichi.store (the "Store"), and the wider Ichinichi Collection are operated by Ohad Tzachar and Eithan Vitkon, Tel Aviv, Israel ("Ichinichi," "we," "us"). Unless stated otherwise, all material on this Store, including the product photography, product descriptions, written research and historical notes, page text, layout, selection and arrangement of the collection, and the look and feel of the site, is created or compiled by us and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The photographs and scans of the original matchbox labels and artworks used on this Store were made by us, from originals we physically own, and are our property. You may not copy, reproduce, republish, scrape, or redistribute this material for commercial purposes without our prior written permission.

2. The source artwork

The designs offered on this Store are reproduced from original Japanese matchbox labels and related printed ephemera in the Ichinichi Collection archive, dating from approximately 1880 to 1940. Every original matchbox label, cover and artwork reproduced on this Store is physically owned by Ohad Tzachar and Eithan Vitkon and held in the Ichinichi Collection, as are the photographs and scans made of them.

These were anonymous commercial works produced for the export trade, in most cases more than a century ago. Under Japanese copyright law, anonymous and corporate works of this kind are protected for a fixed term measured from publication, and we believe the original artwork in our archive to have entered the public domain through the expiry of that term. The original labels themselves are not our creation, and we make no claim of authorship over the historical artwork. We do, however, own the physical originals and the photographs and scans we have made of them.

Copyright status is assessed work by work and can differ from country to country. Our reproductions are offered on the understanding that the underlying historical artwork is out of copyright in its country of origin owing to its age. If you have a good-faith basis to believe that any specific design on this Store is still protected in a relevant territory, or that it infringes rights you hold, please contact us using the details in Section 6 and we will review it promptly.

What we further claim, independently of the status of the historical artwork, is our own work in and around it: the restoration, cleaning, color correction, scanning, arrangement, research, attribution and presentation that turn an aged label into a finished product and catalogue entry. That curatorial and editorial work, the photographs and scans of the originals, and everything described in Section 1, belongs to Ohad Tzachar and Eithan Vitkon.

3. Trademarks

"Ichinichi," "Ichinichi Collection," "Ichinichi Store," and our logos and label-style branding are trademarks of Ohad Tzachar and Eithan Vitkon. You may not use them without our written consent.

Some historical labels reproduced on this Store may depict names, words, emblems or imagery that were trade marks of their original makers. These appear solely as part of an authentic historical artifact and for descriptive, historical and artistic purposes. Their inclusion is not a claim of affiliation with, endorsement by, or rights over any present-day company, brand or trademark holder, and any modern trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

4. Your use of our products

When you buy a product from this Store, you own that physical item and may use, wear, display, gift or resell that individual item freely. You are not granted any right to the underlying designs, photography or branding themselves. In particular, you may not reproduce our product images or design files, create derivative products for sale, or use any Ichinichi design or mark to manufacture, print or sell competing goods.

5. Intellectual property complaints

We respect intellectual property rights and ask the same of others. If you believe content on this Store infringes a copyright or trademark you own or control, contact us at ohadtz@yahoo.com with: a description of the work or mark concerned, the specific URL or product in question, your contact details, and a statement of your rights. We will investigate and, where appropriate, remove or amend the content.
